Kristian Electric partnered with the University of Calgary School of Veterinary Medicine (UCVM) to install the Gorbel Cleveland Tramrail system in its Veterinary Clinical Skills Building (CSB).

The University of Calgary established UCVM in 2005. Prior to this, avian influenza and bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) can be traced back to feedlots in Alberta. It is one of five veterinary schools in Canada.

It was expanded in 2011 with the construction of CSB, which is a fully equipped animal shelter and research facility for various domesticated and exotic species. As a practical clinical and diagnostic learning facility, CSB provides housing areas for surgery, imaging, laboratory and diagnostic activities, and has obtained LEED gold certification for its energy-saving and environmentally-friendly design.

The professional facility is divided into three parts: classroom/office area, laboratory and processing area. The animals of CSB range from dogs and cats to horses and livestock. Since the larger of these animals weighs more than one ton, architectural design must consider an effective method for moving animals to and from different areas of the CSB.

"When Kristian Electric joined, we knew that Gorbel's Cleveland Tramrail system was a perfect fit for this application," Kristian Electric project coordinator Wayne Raber reports.

"Cleveland Tramrail and its patented Tarca track provide straight or curved track segments that work with interlocks and switches to change the direction of the load. For a long time, Cleveland Tramrail has been a laboratory, foundry, and anything that must be used throughout the production area. Popular application choices in the facilities of Mobile Materials.

"Tarca Track has a special raised tread and high-carbon track that makes it superior to I-beams in terms of strength and durability. Cleveland Tramrail allows suspended cranes and transport vehicles to operate on a single straight, curved or inclined track, even It can run on two or more straight runways."

Cleveland Tramrail also allows switches and gates at every intersection. You can use 2-way or 3-way switches to allow the load to move to the right, left or straight. Doors can be installed in areas where the system needs to be "opened" to allow other facilities to move. In the CSB building, some areas need to be closed. The door portion of the monorail can be pulled aside to allow this, and can be swung back to its original position when the door is opened again. Both switches and gates are manually operated.

With any capacity between 2 to 40 tons, unlimited length coverage and power supply capacity, Kristian knows that Gorbel's Cleveland Tramrail monorail crane system is the best choice for CSB building lifting and access requirements.

Kristian technicians began installing two Cleveland Tramrail monorail crane systems in the Clinical Skills Building in 2009. The first Cleveland Tramrail monorail crane system included hundreds of feet of track, five switch points, two gates, and multiple curves; spanning most of the building, there were many connection points that allowed operators to enter individual rooms and laboratory.

The second Cleveland Tramrail monorail crane system was provided for professional laboratories and was set up as a manual operating system, including two doors.

Both systems were equipped with multiple Cowing LHH chain hoists and were completed in 2011.

Kristian Electric returned to CSB in 2014. The second professional laboratory Cleveland Tramrail monorail crane system has been transformed, expanded and converted into a power system, which includes 1 ton Coffee JLC electric chain hoist and electric trolley.
