WINCHESTER, MASS. (WHDH) - A crane at a Winchester construction site tipped onto a partially finished building, damaging the building.

According to the Winchester Police Department, the Rubicon construction site is for a partially constructed five-story apartment complex on Wainwright Road and Cambridge Road near the Woburn line.

“Upon arrival they found no injuries, everyone was out of the building and the crane did indeed tip into the building,” said Winchester Fire Department Chief Rick Tustin.

Around 9 a.m. Tuesday, a crane operator was positioning the machine to hoist materials to the roof when the incident happened. According to Winchester Fire Chief Rick Tustin, only one worker was in the crane, but other workers were on the property. They all managed to escape unharmed on their own. The crash caused structural damage to the building.

No one was injured in the incident, but all work has stopped at the site. As of Tuesday afternoon, the crane was still on site, though structural engineers were on site Tuesday to determine the best course of action to remove the crane.

“It could have been worse,” said Tustin. “There could have been a lot more structural damage, there could have been injuries, there could have been entrapment and thankfully none of that happened.”

OSHA is investigating the cause of the crash.
